CIM was part of the collaborative research network of the COST A30 project "East of West: Setting a New Central and Eastern European Media Research Agenda", which in the 2005-2009 period was part of the European COST initiative funded by the European Science Foundation.
CIM’s chair Professor Zrinjka Peruško was a member of the project from 2006, and her contribution to the project within the Working Group on Media and Democracy (led by Karol Jakubowitz) includes one published book chapter - "Media Concentration Trends in Central and Eastern Europe" (with H. Popović), in Jakubowicz and Sukosd, Finding the Right Place on the Map: Central and Eastern European Media Change in Global Perspective, Intellect Books, 2008. Within the Working Group on Media Policy (led by Beata Klimkiewicz) Peruško contributed the chapter "The Link that Matters: Media Concentration and Diversity of Content” in Media Freedom and Pluralism: Media Policy Challenges in the Enlarged Europe, edited by Beata Klimkiewicz, at this time under peer review.
Peruško organized and chaired the panel "Contemporary Media and the Public Interest:
Genre and Format Diversity and Socially Useful Content" at the international conference organized as the closing event of the COST A30 "East of West" Action (2005-2009). The conference "Beyond East and West: Two Decades of Media Transformation after the Fall of Communism" was held on 25-27 June 2009, in Budapest, and was organized by COST A30, International Communication Association, and Centre for Media and Communication Studies (CSMC ).
